Steve and I met at a Halloween party four years ago. I was dressed as an angel and he was… well, we still argue to this day about what he was dressed as. We went on our first date shortly after and realized our birthdays are a day apart. I guess the rest is history as they say.
How did you get engaged?
Steve called me from work and told me to meet him at Boston Common and to bring our dog Edgar with us. I thought something seemed strange with his request, but I did as instructed. When I met him, we walked for what seemed like hours until he found a secluded spot. He got down on one knee and although he was a little nervous, he asked me to marry him. It was perfect.
What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?
Stephen & I both wanted a wedding on the ocean. I always wanted to have a destination wedding but we couldn’t do that because of elderly family members. As soon as we saw Oceanview of Natant, we knew it was the perfect place. It felt like we could have the destination wedding we wanted there.
What was your color palette and your style vision?
My color palette included blue, pink and white. I wanted the bridesmaids wearing blue to blend in a little with the ocean. I also requested blue orchids. I think they are the prettiest flower. I wanted a romantic wedding with roses and orchids. My dress reminded me of a sea of white roses.
What unique elements or DIY details did you include?
We made our own place cards that we put into a plastic photo booth frame. We wanted to guide our guests to the photo booth so that they could have a fun memory for themselves and for us as well. We also did the aisle flowers for the ceremony as well as our window frames on the place card table.
It was extremely memorable having sparklers at the end of the night and dancing right on the beach for our last dance.
My gown was not at all what I expected to wear. It was a Maggie Sottero gown with the bottom flowing with big white roses. I couldn’t say no to that dress. Our cake had our wedding colors and had orchids to match our wedding colors.
What is one piece of advice do you have for future brides-to-be?
Do not stress! It’s a truly amazing day, but it all goes by in a flash. And of course, eat!
