This is a wedding story about fate and destiny, which brought our couple, Sonia and Sasha, together. Both Sasha and Sonia were born in a little town called Odessa, in Ukraine. In 1989 both of their families immigrated to the United States, where, Sasha and Sonia found themselves living two blocks away from each other without knowing it.
A few years later, Sasha’s family moved to the Sunset district in San Francisco. So did Sonia’s family, and again, little did they know they were only two buildings away from each other.
Thanks to the close knit Russian community in San Francisco, they finally met. From the first moment Sasha laid eyes on her he wanted to get to know her. While Sonia was engaged in other activities like Rhythmic Gymnastics she had no time for boys, yuck! But Sasha’s strong will power, perseverance and constant offers to drive her home (yes, he had a car) lead to a wonderful, blooming friendship. They got to know and learn about each other, have fun together, and finally fall in love.
And here we are my lovelies, the proposal! I will let Sasha and Sonia take it from here.
Tell us about your relationship
We are a fun loving couple with a big sense of humor, we love to laugh and entertain friends. We do everything together, are inseparable, and recently opened a business together so we can be together ALL day ! We consider shopping a sport!
Food is on our minds all the time thats why we travel. We love learning about new cultures, especially through good cuisine, exploring the world, and its beautiful wonders and the jet skiing doesn’t hurt either 😉 We plan to visit every exotic beach on Earth together!
How did he propose?
Well it was probably the best day of Sonia’s life and the most stressful one for Sasha’s. Since it was a Thursday Sonia had school that day and got two 100 %’s on her HW and her test. “Wow can this day get any better,” she pondered. Yes, yes Sonia it can and it will.
As Sasha got home with a huge bouquet of long stem red roses and a mini iPad (a wishlist item), Sonia thought it was the best day ever. Because it was Valentine’s Day, Sasha told her to get dressed up to go out, but not to a restaurant (always too packed). But he said anyway, “let’s try this one spot and see if we get a table”.
When they pulled up to the restaurant, Epic Roasthouse, next to Cupid’s Arrow on the Embarcadero, Sasha asked a couple passing by to take some pictures of them.
He turned to Sonia, “Baby I love waking up next to you every morning! Love being with you, you make me happy and my world complete.”
Tears began flowing down Sonia’s eyes and Sasha gets down on one knee and pulls out the ring to ask, “WILL YOU MARRY ME?”
The couple taking pictures was in complete shock along with Sonia. Sonia sobs a little and with a squeaky voice replied, “YES, YES OF COURSE!”
Anything you want to add about the wedding?
It was everything I had dream of since I was a little girl!
The photographers/video literally were bending over backward trying to capture the moment! Swinging off chandlers to get the exact angle to make my day the most memorable of my life. Thank you!
Let the wedding festivities begin. Mazel tov Sonia & Sasha!
